This programme combines the areas of economics and business and is ideal for students who would like to work in politics, policy, business or finance. The Department of Economics is one of the UK's best, having won 11 National Teaching Awards from the UK Higher Education Academy - more than any other Economics department in the UK

Description

All of our undergraduate programmes combine a range of compulsory modules that you must study in your first year with us before giving you significant freedom to pick optional modules in later years to allow you to focus in on your own interests and specialisation.

Entry Requirements

A-level Qualification

The School of Management will make offers to students with predicted (or achieved) A-Level grades of ‘ABB-BBB’ or better.   No A-level in Business, Economics, Maths or Accounting/Finance is required. We do not however consider General Studies as an A-level subject for offer purposes. Students may combine A-levels with other qualifications below.

International Baccalaureate 

The School of Management will make offers to students with predicted (or achieved) IB of 32-33 or higher.

BTEC (18-unit)

The School of Management will make offers to students with predicted (or achieved) BTEC results of DDM or better.

English Language

Non-native English speakers must achieve 6.0 overall with no component less than 5.5 in IELTS or equivalent tests.

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition fees for entry in the academic year 2016/17 are as follows:

Tuition fees for years of study after your first year are subject to an increase of 3% for International students and at the capped fee rate as set by the UK Government for UK/EU students.

Bay Campus

In September 2015 Swansea University will become one university with two stunning campuses, located in acres of tranquil parkland and on the majestic sweep of the bay. The School of Management is excited to be moving over to this magnificent 65 acre campus. All programmes delivered by the School of Management will be taught at the Bay Campus from September for both new and continuing students.

The Bay Campus is situated in an outstanding location on the eastern approach into Swansea, with direct access onto the beach and its own seafront promenade. The campus will feature modern and bright student accommodation, including standard, premium, twin and wheelchair accessible rooms.

There will be a Tower Information Centre which will be home to central support services for students, a state of the art library and resource centre, the Students’ Union, facilities and meeting rooms and an impressive Great Hall will house an auditorium for 800, lecture theatres and a cafe offering magnificent views across the Swansea Bay towards Gower and Baglan Bay. There will be extensive catering provision throughout the campus to include cafes, bars and a restaurant, retail units include a mini market, laundrette and cash points. All of this will be in addition to recreational sporting facilities and a beach, for all to enjoy.

Facilities and Support

The School of Management has heavily invested in upgraded facilities and support over the past years, including:

A student enterprise suite (opened by Swansea alumnus Sir Terry Matthews in 2013): The School of Management is one of the few UK universities which offers students access to a dedicated entrepreneurship start-up suite. We offer a range of business support facilities, such as business mentoring for start-ups and an active entrepreneurship society. We also provide a range of physical facilities for students including a hot-desking suite for student start-ups, printing/copying facilities, 3-D printing for rapid proto-typing and a range of meeting or production spaces.

A Financial trading and simulation room: In summer 2013 the School of Management opened a new trading and simulation room. This facility includes state-of-the-art computing facilities and is designed to support simulation activities – both within the financial sector such as investment and trading as well as a range of business topics, such as supply chain management, decision analysis and operations management. We are one of a select few schools in the UK to offer a dedicated trading and simulation suite to our students. The suite is home to our investment society and is backed by global trading and investment company OSTC.

Expanded student social space: In our main building, we provide a Junior Common Room (JCR) for all our undergraduate and postgraduate students to meet, relax and socialise with each other. We also provide several group work rooms with presentation facilities for students to come together on group projects and practice team working or presentation skills.

Course highlight … The staff are fantastic. Even though some of Economics concepts can be technical or complicated (or both!), the staff explain them really well, in a really clear and engaging manner.

Swansea highlight … I love the beach and the nightlife! As soon as I visited Swansea on an open day, I knew the location and feel of the campus would suit me, and it’s very much lived up to my expectations.

I’m looking forward to ... Taking more specialist finance modules in my 3rd year to help me achieve my ambition of working in corporate finance or investment banking.
