What's the difference between Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering?
There is not a discernible difference. We choose to use the term Aerospace to reflect the fact that our degree programme has an optional space stream that focuses on space technology.
The entry requirements for the MEng Aerospace Engineering (with a Year in Industry) course are:
AAA-AAB at A level (including Mathematics).
Other recommended subjects include: Physics Further Mathematics Chemistry Design Technology IT/Computing Biology
Variable offers made dependent on subjects studied and all applications are considered on an individual basis, with GCSE grades, AS Level subjects and grades, work experience, references and personal statement taken into account.
Or 34 at IB (preferably to include good marks in HL Mathematics).
Students studying for BTEC qualifications require DDD, plus B grade at A level Mathematics. Studying A level Mathematics alongside a BTEC qualification is our strongly recommended entry pathway for those studying BTEC qualifications. Students not studying A level Mathematics, alongside their BTEC qualification, require D*D*D - D*DD with D in ‘Mathematics for Technicians’ and D in ‘Further Mathematics for Technicians’, plus minimum GCSE grades of B in Mathematics and 2 x B grades in Science/Engineering/Manufacturing.
Students with industrial experience and qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have studied access or vocational qualifications, you are advised to apply for the Integrated Foundation Year.
If you are applying for Level Two (second year) entry, in order to be considered, you will need to have already covered the topics offered in Swansea at Level One (first year) in a certified qualification, with a high overall score.

The tuition fees for the MEng Aerospace Engineering (with a Year in Industry) course do not cover costs incurred personally by the student such as the purchase of books or stationery, printing or photocopying costs.
Recommended textbooks for this course are available in the library. All software needed for the course is available on the Engineering network, for use within our PC rooms at Swansea University.
Free wireless internet access is available across the whole of the University campus and halls of residence.
The MEng Aerospace Engineering (with a Year in Industry) at Swansea University is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED).
Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). An accredited degree will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng). Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.

Our aim is for Aerospace Engineering graduates to be able to understand, evaluate and interpret data, develop arguments and make judgements based on fundamental and advanced concepts relevant to the application of engineering to the aeronautical and aerospace industries.
The comprehensive theoretical studies are complemented by group design exercises, industrial site visits and hands-on aerospace practicals.
This offers you the chance to work on current industrially related issues, in addition to laboratory work utilising our in-house wind tunnel for aerodynamics and jet engine test stand.
Practical flying experience is gained from the College’s state-of-the-art Merlin MP521X engineering flight simulator and flying lessons at a local airport. You will also cover a flight test course in aircraft performance, stability and control at a flight school in a Jetstream twin turboprop aircraft.
As an Engineering student at Swansea University, you will be able to join our thriving Engineering and Sports Science Society.
