The BA Spanish degree can be studied on its own as Single Honours degree or in combination with a wide range of other subjects in Arts and Humanities or with Geography, Economics, or Law. The programme is four years with the third year spent studying in Spain either in a Business, at a Spanish University or teaching English in a school. 

Through a wide range of social events, you will meet Spanish-speaking students who are studying at Swansea as part of the Erasmus exchange programme, as well as Hispanic Studies students from a variety of courses and levels, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

"I chose to study Spanish at Swansea University because the degree offered a range of subjects that suited my interests. I spent my third year teaching English language in a school in Gran Canaria. It was a most exciting and nerve racking experience but I enjoyed every minute of it. I developed my Spanish language skills and also had the opportunity to work and travel. I chose Swansea University because of its location. It is close to the park, the beach and near to a vibrant city centre where there is lots of nightlife. I thoroughly enjoyed studying at Swansea; the course and the year abroad in Gran Canaria have given me a thirst to travel and use the skills and experience I have gained during the past four years. I am now working as a European Recruitment Officer.

Standard Entry requirements

We welcome all enquiries and applications. Our preferred offer for Single and Joint Honours is ABB/BBB at A level (excluding General Studies) or equivalent. Decision between the ABB and BBB offer is made on review of the application form, after taking into consideration the subjects studied, the predicted grades, reference and personal statement. Candidates pursuing Scottish Highers, the Irish Leaving Certificate, Access courses, the International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate or Welsh Baccalaureate qualifications, are also eligible.

Assessment

You are taught by a range of lectures, seminars, tutorials and language classes. Increasingly, Spanish is complementing English as the language of instruction. We make extensive use of Computer Assisted Language Learning facilities and the Internet, and have Spanish satellite television facilities. There are a variety of methods of assessment, including written and oral examinations, assessed essays and dissertations. Your personal tutor monitors your progress and advises you on all matters relating to your scheme of study.
