Italian at Swansea University is open to beginners, as well as those with previous knowledge.  We offer Joint Honours programmes with other European Languages, Translation and Interpreting, Arts and Humanities subjects , Economics, Geography and Law.

Standard Entry requirements

We welcome all enquiries and applications. Our preferred offer for Single and Joint Honours is BBC at A level (excluding General Studies) or equivalent. BBC offer is made on review of the application form, after taking into consideration the subjects studied, the predicted grades, reference and personal statement. Candidates pursuing Scottish Highers, the Irish Leaving Certificate, Access courses, the International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate or Welsh Baccalaureate qualifications, are also eligible.

Assessment

All modules are taught in small classes. The format (lecture, seminar discussion, written or oral language class) and the medium of instruction (English or Italian) vary according to the topic, and the needs of the group at any given time. Language Laboratory, Computer Assisted Language Learning, and TV/video facilities are available for private study, as well as being fully integrated elements in a number of modules. Different modules employ different, and in many cases, mixed methods of assessment. These include written examinations, essays and other assessed work completed either in class or in students’ own time, and oral/aural language tests, according to the topic and level of the module.
