The BA English Language Studies programme is intended for students who wish to deepen and extend their understanding of English as well as of language and communication more generally.
Part-time study:

English Language is taught by staff in Applied Linguistics. All teaching staff are research-active and tend to specialise in fields such as vocabulary acquisition and testing, TEFL, discourse analysis and stylistics, corpus linguistics and computer-assisted language learning. Our undergraduate schemes have been designed to give students concise and balanced coverage of linguistic theory and practice. Because staff specialise in the real-world application of linguistics, students should find the modules they follow both interesting and of relevance to their future careers. Our programmes are taught through the medium of English language. Visit the website for more information.
We welcome all enquiries and applications. Our preferred offer for Single and Joint Honours is BBC at A-level (excluding General Studies) or equivalent. However, offers are made on review of the application form, after taking into consideration the subjects studied, the predicted grades, reference and personal statement. Candidates pursuing Scottish Highers, the Irish Leaving Certificate, Access courses, the International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate or Welsh Baccalaureate qualifications, are also eligible. We require 15 Distinction and 18 merits for Access qualifications, Welsh Baccalaureate Pass plus BC at A-level, and IB - 30 points. IELTS 6.0 for candidates whose first language is not English.
