Swansea University - MBBCH Medicine (Graduate Entry)

MB Bch Medicine (Graduate Entry)

College of Medicine

The Graduate Entry Medicine Programme (MB BCh) here in Swansea is unique in Wales, and one of a small group of fast-track programmes of medical study in the UK. It is a fully independent four-year programme based entirely in Swansea and west Wales. Supported by the Welsh Government, we hope that it will increase the number of doctors trained in Wales, address the acute shortage of doctors here and widen access to a profession of motivated and highly skilled individuals.

The UCAS code for this course is: A101
Full time study: 4 year degree scheme

Part-time study: Not applicable

To be eligible to apply to the programme, you must be classified as a 'home student' (i.e. UK and EU citizens). You must apply through UCAS and sit the GAMSAT test to be eligible to apply. You must also have a 2:1 degree or above (or equivalent) or predicted 2:1 or above (subsequently satisfied) in any subject, Mathematics and English/Welsh at GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent), and preferably some GCSE or post-GCSE level (or equivalent) experience in Biology or Chemistry (this is desirable but not essential).

For applicants who hold more than one Bachelors degree, it it the result from the last degree that is considered.

The College of Medicine will not normally consider applicants who have failed to complete a previous medical degree programme. The College does not accept transfers from other medical courses.

Further information is available from the College of Medicine website.

Standard Entry requirements

Additionally, applicants must have obtained GCSE English/Welsh and Mathematics at grade C or above (or equivalent), and preferably have some GCSE or post-GCSE experience in Biology or Chemistry (this is desirable but not essential). Accreditation
Assessment

Studying medicine is both exciting and challenging but we believe the best way to learn how to be a Doctor is to do what Doctors do. With this in mind, the Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) Programme here in Swansea has been developed with an innovative curriculum based on contemporary best educational practice. All of your learning will be in a clinical context, either actually in the clinic or framed in a way to make it directly relevant to the everyday practice of Medicine and, with appropriate supervision and regard for patient safety, you will be given every possible opportunity to manage your own learning in the context in which it will be applied when you graduate. The educational philosophy that underpins the design and delivery of the GEM Programme values and encourages your development as a lifelong, self-directed, learner who is equipped with learning skills not only to function effectively as a ‘day one’ Foundation Doctor, but which will stand you in good stead for the rest of your working life in medicine. We seek to stimulate your curiosity and develop your expertise and knowledge about learning in the clinical context.
