The UCAS code for this course is: J510
Full time study: 4 year degree scheme

Part-time study: N/A

This four year programme integrates lectures, tutorials and practicals to provide training in key aspects of science and technology. “Hands on” experience involves not only laboratory investigations using state-of-the-art equipment, but also computer applications, including electronic communication and data analysis. Specialist modules enhance personal and professional skills and provide an introduction to business and management. After successful completion of Years 1 and 2, the third year of study (Level S) is undertaken in a selected university in the United States, Canada or Australia. During this year abroad, you will follow science and engineering courses, and may also choose to undertake a limited number of non-technical courses. The final year then takes place in Swansea. A substantial research project and dissertation form a major part of the final year of study, with the choice of each depending on your academic interests and future career intentions. Candidates completing the BEng degree are well equipped to secure excellent jobs or may choose to undertake further high-level research degrees.

International students are very welcome to study materials engineering at Swansea and our past students have an excellent record of success. If you have qualifications equivalent to level 1 of our degree schemes (e.g. a relevant diploma) you will be able to join us at level 2. You may then progress to either BEng or MEng depending on attainment. We will be happy to advise you on the suitability of your qualifications.

Standard Entry requirements

BEng: BBB at A level (including two Science or Technology subjects), or 32 at IB (including two Science or Technology subjects at HL).

MEng: AAB at A level (including two Science or Technology subjects), or 34 at IB (including two Science or Technology subjects at HL).

If you do not have these qualifications, you can consider applying for the Integrated Foundation Year scheme, H101.

Students with industrial experience and qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

International student entry criteria can be found here www.swansea.ac.uk/international/apply/

If you are applying for Level Two (second year) entry, in order to be considered, you will need to have already covered the topics offered in Swansea at Level One in a certified qualification, with a high overall score.

Accreditation

All materials engineering degrees are accredited by the Institute of Materials. This means, that after a degree from the School of Engineering and structured industrial training, our graduates can aim for the prized “Chartered Engineer” status. This gives our graduates valuable experience, whilst adding to their qualifications, status and career prospects. Applicants, whose qualifications are not suitable for direct entry to Level 1 may register for the four year BEng degree scheme with an integrated foundation year
