Swansea is consistently rated as one of the top universities for Civil Engineering in the UK. In the Teaching Quality Assessment, our teaching was rated as ‘Excellent’ – the highest category. The Times Good University Guide 2005 places Swansea second to Cambridge out of 45 universities.
Part-time study: N/A
The excellence of our research work is also internationally recognised and this is reflected in the continuous achievement of 5* rating – the highest possible – achieved in the national Research Assessment Exercise. This will qualify the department for the 6* designation now being applied in the English rating system. Only two departments in Civil Engineering in the UK are ranked this highly.
Civil engineers play an important role in society, as they are responsible for design, construction and maintenance in areas such as transport systems, buildings and water supply.
