English as a Second Language

The BA Translation is a Single Honours degree which gives you expertise in the practice and theory of translation. If your first language is one we teach as a foreign language, you can take English as one of your two languages of study. The table below shows the modules you should take for English. English is offered by the Department of Applied Linguistics and the Department of English.
Each column in the table corresponds to 120 credits. Credits that have to be taken in English are indicated in blue, optional credits that can be taken either in English or in another subject in white, credits that have to be taken for the other language in red, and obligatory modules about translation in general in yellow.

Note on Translation Workshops

You should take the translation workshops for your first language, translating between this language and English. At level 2 you will translate into English. At level 3 you will translate in both directions. For some languages, the level 3 translation workshop is replaced by a translation project. This depends on the number of students taking a particular language and on their language combinations. For the current year, this page describes the situation.
