University Legal Services Team

The University Legal Services Team is part of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office and provides legal support and advice on a comprehensive range of legal matters relating to the work of the University, to its Colleges and to its Administrative Departments.

Recent requests for advice have included the following areas: codes of conduct and practice; collaborative arrangements; contractual matters; commercialisation; complaints; compliance; conflicts of interest; contract review; equality and diversity matters; Freedom of Information and Data Protection; grant funding matters; immigration regulations; insurance matters; intellectual property; leases, licenses and management agreements; legacies; new legislation; procurement; property-related matters;  Public Interest Disclosure (Whistle-blowing); records management; safeguarding; security; staff recruitment.

Requests for assistance from the Legal Services Team should currently be submitted via e-mail to the Legal Services Team with the confirmed authority of the Head of College or relevant Administrative Director. All requests will be subject to an initial evaluation to determine whether the request will be dealt with in-house or whether to instruct an external legal services provider. At all stages regular updates will be provided by the Legal Services Team on the progress of submitted enquiries.

Ceri Bird, Head of Legal Services Team

Ceri is a Practising Solicitor and joined the University in October 2013 as its Legal Adviser; in October 2014 she became the Head of Legal Services Team.  Prior to joining the University she worked for the City & County of Swansea for ten years and has experience in a variety of legal areas including property, commercial contracts, procurement, employment, equal pay, housing, highways and planning, flood defence, education and charities.
