Sir Roger Jones was born in Corwen, Denbighshire, and attended Bala Boys Grammar School. After graduating in pharmacy at the Welsh School of Pharmacy, Cardiff, he took a masters degree in finance and economics at Bradford University.
In 1968 Sir Roger Jones joined the Wellcome Foundation’s fast-track career development programme, working in Africa, the Middle East, the Far East and Soviet Union. In the early 80s he set up his own businesses and founded Penn Pharmaceuticals Ltd and Lansdales Pharmacies Ltd. He is also a former Governor of the BBC and former Chairman of the BBC Broadcasting Council for Wales. He has also chaired the Institute of Directors Wales, the Welsh Industrial Trust, the Welsh Development Agency and the National Trust’s Advisory Committee for Wales. Sir Roger was awarded an OBE in 1996 for his services to the pharmaceutical industry and was knighted in the 2005 New Year honours list.
Sir Roger Jones is Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Swansea University Council. He is also a member of the Court and of the Finance and Honorary Awards Committees and Chair of the Nominations and Remuneration Committees.
