Mr Huw Jones is a Civil Engineer. Following graduation from the University of Wales Swansea, he travelled to Zaria, Nigeria where he lectured in Soil Mechanics, returning to the UK in 1967 where he joined W S Atkins and Partners, Swansea Office, gaining experience in the civil engineering, drainage and highway departments. In 1974, he joined the Department of the Environment at the Welsh Office in Cardiff, working on derelict land reclamation schemes, before returning to W S Atkins in 1975. He has been involved in major road building schemes, land reclamation, infrastructure provision for residential and industrial developments, restoration of canals, as well as having a geotechnical input on all the work in the region. He became Head of the Civil and Water Department in 1986 and was promoted to Technical Director in 1989. He was deputy to the region’s Managing Director and responsible for the management of the Swansea Office.

In October 2002, he retired from W S Atkins and started working as a self-employed consultant working on reclamation and regeneration of brownfield sites mainly for residential development.

Mr Jones is a co-opted member of Swansea University Council and is a member of Court and of the Finance Committee.
