Type of Partner / Partnership

Swansea University has several types of partners

The main ones are listed below:

  • Other Universities
  • Further Education Colleges
  • Private Colleges / Institutions
  • Industrial (e.g. multi-national corporations, SME's)
  • Charity/Charitable Organisation
  • Research Institutes (e.g. Research Hospitals) 

Type of Partnership

Swansea University partnerships will normally be categorised under the following: 

  • Institutional Strategic Partner (Overseas)
    Swansea University has developed an institution-based partnership with selected international universities, through which an extensive range of collaboration has/will be developed including: joint research; joint degrees; staff exchanges and secondments; student exchanges and the sharing of knowledge and experiences between professional services staff, take place.  The collaboration shall be on an institutional basis incorporating many academic disciplines and involving interaction between management teams and professional services (administration) departments.
  • Strategic Partner (Overseas)
    Swansea University has identified the need to develop Strategic partnerships with overseas universities through which it will further its internationalisation strategy.  Strategic partnerships are those developed between Swansea University and targeted international universities, through which a range of joint or collaborative activities take place and which have the potential of supporting key strategic developments.
  • Associate Partner (UK and Overseas)
    Swansea University has identified an associate partner institution as a partner which has offered a portfolio (normally in a range of disciplines) of HE programmes with Swansea University and have delivered at least two cohort of students to successful completion of the programme.  The status of associate partner shall be designated on a partner which can also demonstrate evidence of a higher education environment and appropriate support infrastructure for HE students along with appropriate facilities. Other requirements might also apply depending on whether the partner is a FE college or overseas institution/university. In addition an associate institution shall demonstrate a higher level of commitment to collaborating with the University than an affiliate partner.
  • Affiliate Partner (UK and Overseas)
    Swansea University has identified an affiliate partner institution as a partner which has offered a portfolio (normally in limited range of disciplines) of HE programmes with Swansea University and have experience of delivering at least one cohort of students to successful completion of the programme.  The status of affiliate partner shall be designated on a partner which can also demonstrate evidence of a higher education environment and appropriate support infrastructure for HE students along with appropriate facilities. Other requirements might also apply depending on whether the partner is a FE college or overseas institution/university. Such partners are encouraged to apply in due course to become an associate partner.
  • Partner Institute (UK and Overseas)
    Swansea University has developed a number of partnerships with institutions or universities through which collaborative academic programmes are offered. The partnerships are, initially, normally restricted to one or a few disciplines and will be supported by a Memorandum of Agreement.  Such partners are encouraged to apply in due course to become an affiliate partner.
