You can cycle to both campuses

Cycling is a fantastic method of getting around - not only is it environmentally friendly, but it also great for the body and mind.

Swansea University is a cycle-friendly university with plenty of bike parking on both campuses, as well as showers and other supporting facilities. There are a number of cycling initiatives including the BayCaycles scheme, where you can borrow a bike for free from either campus.

There are lots of cycle routes in the Swansea Bay area, including between the campuses.

These can be viewed on a handy interactive map here.

The red 'central line' runs between the university campuses and the estimated cycle time is 27 minutes. Over half a million pounds is being spent over the summer of 2015 upgrading this cycle route, and once this work is complete a series of trips will be organised to highlight the route to students and staff. The route is not always straightforward so full instructions will be posted here in due course. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Jayne Cornelius, Travel Plan Coordinator, on

Cycle Parking

Cycle parking at the Bay Campus is shown on the map here:

Cycle parking at the Park Campus is not shown on the current campus map, but is extensive. It will be shown in future editions of the map.

Shower and Locker Facilities

There are likely to be shower and locker facilities at the Bay Campus. Further information will be posted on this page as soon as it is known.

BayCycles is a pool bike scheme, available FREE of charge to Swansea University staff and students.

You can collect a bike from either campus and use it for free, so long as you return it (to either campus) within four hours. All of the bikes are serviced regularly and you will be issued with a helmet, bike pump and lights (if required).

Full details of how / where to go to hire a BayCycle will be published prior to the opening of the Bay Campus in 2015.
