Mr. John Gibson is currently a Clinical Lecturer in the Reconstructive Surgery & Regenerative Medicine (ReconRegen) research group. He is currently reading for a Medical Doctorate (MD) degree alongside plastic surgery training in the Welsh centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery.

John obtained his medical degree in Cardiff in 2013 prior to commencing his Foundation Training in Wales. He completed his Core Surgical Training in Scotland, obtaining his Membership to The Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow) in 2016.

John’s research interest is in the Use of Big Data in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and development of a national skin cancer database and streamlining of patient care.

He is currently supervised by Professor Iain Whitaker (Professor of Plastic Surgery) and Professor Hayley Hutchings (Professor of Health Service Research) and is working in Collaboration with Mr Ashley Akbari (Senior Research Analyst) and Mr Tom Dobbs (Clinical Lecturer in Plastic Surgery). He is well supported by the ReconRegen Research Group (the largest plastic surgery research group in the UK) and the SAIL databank / MRC Farr Institute based at Swansea University Medical School. This collaboration aims to provide novel insights into the management of non melanoma skin cancers with the aim of transforming such care in Wales.
