Debbie joined Swansea University in January 2016. She has 19 years experience in the HE Sector, with a wide background covering all aspects of the learner experience, working previously for the Open University and the University of South Wales and most recently as Project Manager for OER Wales Cymru, a national and sector wide Open Educational Resource Initiative
Debbie’s role at SALT as a Senior Academic Developer is to develop, support and embed best practice in Learning and Teaching across the university within the SALT team. She has responsibility for the organisation of the annual SALT Learning and Teaching Conference and various learning and teaching projects.
Debbie is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a keen open educational resource advocate and open educational practitioner. She serves on the ALT (Association of Learning Technology) Special Interest Group for Open Education. She has a research interest in the area of social and collaborative learning and the use of Open Digital Badges in Higher Education.
Debbie holds a number of external facing roles including positions on the organisation committees for the OER16 Conference(University of Edinburgh April 2016), and the Open Badges in HE Conference Planning Committee (University of Southampton March 2016. She is also a member of the Badge Alliance, Open Badge Network and is a Mozilla Badge Advocate.
Debbie is a member of the organising team for the weekly Learning and Teaching Tweet Chats (#lthechat) and has undertaken several course facilitator roles for open online courses within the open education community including #FOS4L (Flexible, Open and Social Learning) .
