Maria joined OPAN Cymru in August 2010 and is a Research Portfolio Development Officer. She is responsible for facilitating the growth of ageing research in Wales and writing research funding applications. She completed an undergraduate degree at Swansea University in Philosophy and Sociology and subsequently worked for various national NGOs in Wales including Oxfam Cymru, RNID Cymru and The Welsh Refugee Council. For five years Maria worked as the Equality and Inclusion Manager at Age Cymru, during this time she completed her Masters degree in Equality and Diversity, facilitated the development of a number of older peoples’ networks including the BME older people’s forum and the LGBT older people’s network, and brought in significant funding to support the Age Cymru age equality programme.
