I am a Clinical Skills Tutor in the Department of Nursing. My background is in Emergency and Critical Care, especially Burns Intensive Care. I have worked in Saudi Arabia and France as well as around the UK, and am passionately interested in international and cultural aspects of nursing. My other interests are clinical skills and resuscitation, particularly simulation based training. I have published several articles on burns care and am passionate about evidence based practice.

Teaching

  • SHHM31 Causes and management of critical illness

This module builds upon the knowledge and skills required for assessment and reasoning acquired in the anatomy and physiology module, and the clinical assessment and diagnostic skills modules to enhance and extend the student¿s interpretative, diagnostic and management abilities when caring for critically ill patients. The student will learn to adapt the assessment and diagnosis of patients to the rapid assessment and interpretation of clinical situations where the patient is developing or has existing critical illness. The module is suitable for those nurses who are preparing for advanced practice where their role includes developing advanced practice in critical care and/or providing critical care outreach provision.

  • SHN388 Causes and Management of Critical Illness

This module is suitable for nurses working in a variety of critical care settings who have experience in caring for critically ill patients. It is recommended, although not essential that potential students have completed a foundation module in intensive care or equivalent. The aim of the module is to equip nurses with the knowledge to manage patients with particular pathologies associated with critical illness when adopting a collaborative approach to care.
