Biography

Gillian has a particular research interest in the sociology of race and mixed race and in the involvement of children in their health affairs. She has published in these areas and has an interest in promoting the perspectives of mixed race people and families within public policy. She has worked on Department of Health funded research project to investigate patient partnership in a paediatric clinic within a London teaching hospital.

As a founder member of WEDHS she has an interest in the particular experiences of minority groups in Wales and is currently engaged in research to investigate the extent and nature of teaching about diversity within the Welsh nursing curriculum. A further aspect to the WEDHS work is the taking forward of research to involve users in an investigation of public beliefs about organ donation and transplantation.

  • Outside the University Gillian is chairperson of the charity People in Harmony which supports the mixed race community
