I have been working at the University for over 20 years and have a wide range of research interests. Originally I studied applied microbiology but have developed a wide interests in the industrial application of biological systems for the production of food, beverages, chemicals and their application in the environment. This has focused on waste separations, waste treatment and waste conversion processes; Natural product isolation and production systems; The production of lactic acid bacteria as pre and probiotics; algae and oil production; Design and operations of Bioreactors, Membrane bioreactors & Photobioreactors; Downstream processing including membrane technology,membrane fouling and  water treatment systems.  Aquaculture systems and technology. Selective metal recovery systems at low concentrations.
