Pitch Excellence at Sports Centre

Sports Centre comes away with silverware at the Emirates!

Swansea University Sports Centre recently received an award for the Best Maintained Artificial Pitch in the UK (2009) from the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG).

The original nomination for this award was submitted by an outside individual, whilst short listing procedures required nominated facilities to provide documentary evidence to the IOG detailing maintenance programmes for the artificial surfaces, health & safety information and photographs of the facilities.

The university were fortunate enough to be shortlisted as one of three finalists and as a result met with two judges from the IOG who inspected the site, interviewed staff and took photos of the facilities.

The award was collected at the IOG Awards Evening held in the Emirates Stadium, London, home to Arsenal FC. The University was represented on the evening by Andrew Griffiths (Athletic Development Manager), and John Courtney (Grounds Manager).
