Ben was heading to the United States to study on a rugby scholarship when a head injury whilst playing the sport forced him to reconsider. He had already visited Swansea at an Open Day and had in fact applied to study here before he committed to the university in the States. So when his plans changed, he contacted Swansea through Clearing and was offered a place on the course to start in 2015.
Ben says, “Joining Swansea the way I did could have been a very stressful experience; however the Clearing and accommodation teams made it very simple and easy for me. It has been a great experience to be taught on a newly built campus with facilities that, I feel, are up there with some of the best in the UK. I have been fortunate enough to meet and work with so many great minds during my time here.”
Opportunities for students
With his father’s experience in the digital sector and Ben’s work in promoting the business, the company has experienced terrific success in its first few years.
Ben talks passionately about involving fellow students in his business to ensure the next generation are brought into the manufacturing sector:
“When we first set up the business, we decided that we would look to bring through the next generation of digital advertising specialists and that’s why our recruitment policy to date has been to employ students alongside current experts. This has led to them learning from the best in the business and we hope they will go on to have highly successful careers in the industry. During the summer of 2017, we employed two Swansea University students: one from the business management course and one from electrical engineering. Both excelled in their respective roles and as a result, both have been offered a full-time position once they graduate in the summer of 2018.”
As his company continues to grow, Ben hopes to retain links to Swansea when he graduates next year by setting up a satellite office in the area. Ben will continue assisting Swansea University and its student body by offering work placements and support for final year projects – passing on his entrepreneurial skills to the next generation.
