Impact with Industry

‌Launched in September 2016 our Employment Zone initiative connects students with graduate recruiters, part-time jobs and work experience opportunities. To date, over 1,000 employers have registered with over 2,651 opportunities advertised and 300 students accessing per day.

“Working for the MS Therapy Centre was a great experience. I was a charity bid writer for the centre … I gained experience in administrative duties as well as practically applying the writing skills I have learnt from my degree…I would not have had the opportunity without the Employment Zone team.” Rebecca Elms, BA English Literature and Classical Civilisation.

Through our Swansea Paid Internship Network we connect students to employers across all sectors for 4 week graduate level placements. All roles are advertised via Employment Zone, and our SEA Specialists support placements to ensure that both the business and the student get the most out of the internship. Students are paid at least £300 per week, full time, and grants are available to employers to support their salary. SPIN placements have grown by 208% to 185 since 2012-13.

Week of WorkOur Week of Work (WOW) programme offers students a taster of a wide range of businesses and gives employers an opportunity to bring students’ dynamic talent to the business for shorter projects.  Bursaries are available to support student expenses. WOW placements have grown by 400% to 497 since 2012-13.

Santander UniversitiesThe Santander Universities Placement Programme provides students and recent graduates with paid work experience within local SMEs and third sector organisations providing real impact. Santander offers flexible grants to these employers. The Santander placements partnerships have grown from 10 in 2013-14 to 59 in 2016-17. “The placement has been a real boost for our small start-up office. Joe has been an amazing asset to our team… able to bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and a fantastic work ethic slotting in right away. We have been so pleased we have offered Joe full time employment with us. The SPIN / Santander schemes were really simple to set up with the help of our Employment Co-ordinators, I would highly recommend them.’ Lisa Buchanan, Director Kare Plus Swansea.
