Particle physics display in Science Pavilion at National Eisteddfod

Eisteddfod-Students This summer the Physics Department helped mount a particle physics display in the Science Pavilion at the National Eisteddfod.

Staff involved were Dr Dirk-Peter van der Werf and Prof Simon Hands and students included Katie Welsby and Helen Lewis (see attached photo).

Highlights included a model of the LHC accelerator at CERN in the form of a circular model railway track, and several bilingual displays setting out the work of the ALPHA anti-hydrogen group working at CERN and the particle physics theory group.

The displays were supported by a small PUS award from STFC. There were 26000 visitors to the Eisteddfod over the course of the week.
