Access to the Archive and its materials

Awe Logo

If you want to visit the Archive in Swansea to consult either the audio recordings or the field transcriptions of the Survey of Anglo-Welsh Dialects, you should write in advance to Rob Penhallurick at R.J.Penhallurick@Swansea.ac.uk. Because of their age and value, access to the original materials is restricted.

However, from the summer of 2008 you can access digitized copies of the audio recordings via the British Library’s Sound Archive online catalogue. A selection of SAWD recordings will also feature in the British Library’s popular Sounds Familiar? website, at http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/sounds/index.html.

See also this site’s Bibliography for details of publications which present the findings of SAWD. The major SAWD publications are Parry (1977, 1979, 1999) and Penhallurick (1991). Penhallurick (2004, 2007) give useful summaries, and Penhallurick (1996) gives additional material for North Wales.
