This research, funded by the Higher Education Academy (HEA), will examine good practice in Chinese language teaching.
Due to his extensive background in theory and practice of language teaching, Dr Shei is not only a language teacher and a language teacher trainer but also a researcher on second language teaching and learning. Through his International Scholarship work Dr Shei will bring in first-hand research results and teaching materials from China. His plans include a book in Chinese linguistics and three conference papers during his three-month stay at his host institution, the National Kaohsiung Normal University, Taiwan. He will also attend classes and seminars and practical teaching sessions during this stay with a view to bringing not only research results but also examples of good practice in Chinese language teaching back to the UK.
Dr Chris Chi-Chiang Shei is an applied linguist and a renowned translator of academic books and has contributed to eight books translated from English to Chinese to be used as textbooks in the field of Educational Studies in Taiwan. He has also published a ground-breaking book entitled Translation and the Web: Theory, Practice, and Norn (translated from the Chinese title) at the end of 2010 which is the first of its kind published in Taiwan. He is currently writing a book Understanding the Chinese Language estimated to be published by Routledge at the beginning of 2014.
