Dr Francesca Rhydderch at the Shanghai International Book Fair and International Literature Festival, 17-23 August 2015

Francesca Rhydderch1 - Shanghai 2015Dr Francesca Rhydderch (above, centre) was invited to Shanghai to promote the launch of the Chinese translation of her novel The Rice Paper Diaries.  The visit received significant financial support from Wales Arts International and Swansea University. She was accompanied throughout by her translator Yan Ying (Leicester University), and her publisher Jade Li (Shanghai Translation Publishing House).

a headline forum for Shanghai International Literature Week featuring all the invited Chinese, British and Chinese-American writers at Shanghai International Conference Centre

a lecture on ‘Welsh Women’s Writing and The Rice Paper Diaries’ at Shanghai Public Library

a signing at the international book fair following a 45-minute TV interview filmed on site for a major arts show, We Read Books

At the final event of the week, a celebratory poetry gala, she read poems from Wales, including work by Dylan Thomas.

Each event was attended by over 200 people.
