The current news about doping in international athletics has created considerable media interest in Anne Lauppe Dunbar’s new novel, the thriller Dark Mermaids. In writing the novel, Anne undertook deep research into athletics doping in East Germany prior to 1990. Her mother was a refugee from the GDR.

She’ll be talking about her research and her book on BBC Radio Wales with Jamie Owen on Sunday 15 November at 11.00 am.

Dark Mermaids is a shocking story of the horrors of a political system that doped its youngsters to sporting superhero status, and then left them to fend for themselves. It is available at John Smith Bookshop on campus or on-line. Dr Lauppe Dunbar is part of the Creative Writing team at Swansea University, where she also studied for her MA and PhD.
