Prof Alan Llwyd 2Ar ddydd Iau, 4 Rhagfyr, bydd yr Athro Alan Llwyd yn traddodi ei ddarlith agoriadol, 'Creu ar Gynghanedd' ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe.

O dan arweiniad yr Is-ganghellor, Richard B Davies, ‘Creu ar Gynghanedd’ fydd darlith agoriadol yr Athro Llwyd ers iddo gael ei apwyntio’n Athro yn Academi Hywel Teifi, Prifysgol Abertawe, ym mis Chwefror 2013.

Fel bardd, mae'r Athro Llwyd wedi cyhoeddi 14 o gyfrolau, ac mae rhai o’i gyfrolau awdurdodol ar Gerdd Dafod ymhlith ei gyfrolau pwysicaf. Ymhlith ei gyhoeddiadau diweddar y mae tri chofiant swmpus: Kate: Cofiant Kate Roberts 1891-1985 (2011), Bob: Cofiant R. Williams Parry 1884-1956, a enillodd un o wobrau Llyfr y Flwyddyn eleni, a Waldo: Cofiant Waldo Williams 1904-1971.

Ac yntau'n awdur tri llyfr ar Gerdd Dafod, ystyrir yr Athro Llwyd fel y prif awdurdod ar y gynghanedd heddiw. Bydd ei ddarlith yn trafod y grefft o gynganeddu, gan ddefnyddio ei waith ef ei hun yn bennaf i amlygu rhai agweddau hanfodol ar y gynghanedd, a chan ystyried yr holl gyfundrefn oddi fewn i gyd-destun cymdeithasol a hanesyddol.

Traddodir y ddarlith hon yn Gymraeg.

On Thursday, 4 December, Professor Alan Llwyd will deliver his inaugural lecture, entitled 'Writing poetry through the strict-metre system’, introduced by the Vice-Chancellor, Richard B. Davies.

Professor Alan Llwyd was appointed Professor at Academi Hywel Teifi within the College of Arts and Humanities in February 2013.

As a poet, Professor Llwyd has published 14 volumes of poetry, and has also published books of literary criticism, including two books on the Welsh strict-metre system. His most recent publications include three biographies of some of the most important writers in Welsh, one of which, Bob: Cofiant R. Williams Parry 1884-1956, won a Wales Book of the Year award in 2014.

Having published three highly specialised books on the Welsh strict-metre system, known in Welsh as cynghanedd, Professor Llwyd is considered Wales' foremost authority on this unique metrical system. This lecture will focus on certain essential aspects ofcynghanedd, with particular references to his own work, as well as expounding his own personal theories regarding the social and historical significance of the whole system.

This lecture will be delivered through the medium of Welsh.
