‘The Self and the Other’

‘The Self and the Other’ is a cross disciplinary conference showcasing contemporary postgraduate research in the Arts and Humanities at Swansea University.  It offers students an opportunity to present their research in a supportive academic environment and to publicise their research to new audiences.

Papers will interrogate the concepts of the self and the other by exploring innovative ways in which the themes may be applied to research in the Arts and Humanities.

Topics may include the following:

  • Identity in multicultural societies
  • Minorities and majorities; social inclusion/exclusion
  • Digital Humanities
  • Migration; displacement
  • Conflict, resistance, revolution and resolution
  • Postmodernism / deconstruction
  • Fragmentation / distortion
  • Representing ‘otherness’  - memory, witnessing, authority, authenticity
  • Adaptation and evolution
  • Echoes and repercussion
  • Power Relations - marginalised individuals, ‘powerless’ individuals
  • Archetypes and stereotypes

Abstracts should be approximately 250 words in length. Please include your title, abstract, name, student number and department and send to e.canning@swansea.ac.uk.

Deadline for submission of abstracts: Friday 1st August 2014

Authors of papers accepted for presentation will be invited to submit their work for publication in a volume of conference proceedings.

‘Yr Hunan a’r Llall’

Cynhadledd traws-ddisgyblaethol yn arddangos gwaith ymchwil myfyrwyr ôl-raddedig cyfoes y Celfyddydau a’r Dyniaethau yw ‘Yr Hunan a’r Llall’.  Mae’n cynnig cyfle i fyfyrwyr gyflwyno eu hymchwil mewn amgylchedd academaidd cefnogol ac i rannu eu hymchwil â chynulleidfaoedd newydd.

Bydd y papurau yn cwestiynu cysyniadau am yr hunan a’r llall drwy archwilio dulliau arloesol o ddefnyddio’r themâu hyn mewn gwaith ymchwil yn y Celfyddydau a’r Dyniaethau.

Gall bynciau gynnwys y canlynol:

  • Lleiafrifoedd a mwyafrifoedd; cynhwysiad/gwaharddiad cymdeithasol

  • Cyfaddasu ac esblygu
  • Atseiniau ac adleisiau
  • Cysylltiadau grym – unigolion ar y cyrion, unigolion ‘di-rym’
  • Archdeipiau a stereoteipiau

Dylai’r crynodebau gynnwys oddeutu 250 o eiriau.  Dylech gynnwys y teitl, y crynodeb, eich enw, rhif myfyriwr a’ch adran a’u hanfon i e.canning@abertawe.ac.uk
