Hafan Books, the imprint run by Tom Cheesman (LTC) to raise funds and awareness for Swansea Bay Asylum Seekers Support Group (www.swanseabassgroup.org) has published two new books this October with a third out in November.
Fragments: Transcribing the Holocaust by Frances Rapport contains poetic transcriptions of the life-stories of three women who survived Auschwitz and settled in Wales. The new 100-page paperback book by Professor Rapport (College of Medicine, Swansea University) details the life stories of three female survivors of the Holocaust and how they came to live and settle in Wales post-war.
Are You Happy With That? is an anthology of poems, stories and essays by asylum seekers and refugees from 30 countries, living in Wales, edited by Tom Cheesman. This book features extraordinary stories of the men, women and children who are seeking sanctuary in Wales. It poses a number of challenging questions - Are you happy with the world conflicts which displace millions of people each year? Happy with Britain's role in these conflicts? Happy with the way we treat the few refugees who reach our shores? Tom says, “Be moved. Be surprised. Be provoked. Get involved.”
Are You Happy print edition is £8.99 at http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0956947379.
Copies can bought from Tom (cheques to ‘Swansea Bay ASSG’) or from Amazon:
In November Hafan Books will also be publishing a selection of poems by Jörg Bernig (Writer in Residence in the Centre for Contemporary German Culture) with English translations produced in a workshop with students of German and Creative Writing. The book, titled ‘flower angel ship’, was launched at a special event on 13 November.
