On 10 July 2013 Treboeth Historical Society, assisted by the Swansea University Connected Communities project, will screen the first public viewing of a short animated story that records the life of famous Welsh Composer Daniel James.
Treboeth Historical Society are one of six local groups who have been supported by the ‘Heritage Lottery funded Swansea University Connected Communities project’ to record the history and heritage of the communities of the Swansea Valley.
Working with Swansea University student volunteers, researchers and local schools, the Society’s short animation is part of a bigger research project to promote the life of the Swansea-born composer of Calon Lan.
To date, the project team has worked closely with a local animation company, as well as schools in the area, to create an animated film that will be available online, in libraries and in schools alongside dedicated teaching packs. As part of the project local talks will also be given to the community on the story of the famous bard.
To celebrate the project and to provide the first public viewing of the animation, the Treboeth Historical Society are hosting an evening dedicated to Daniel James on July 10 at Mynyddbach Chapel (7-9pm); this is a community event and all are welcome to attend.
The evening will be introduced and led by Reverend Grenville Fisher of Mynddbach Chapel. A talk about the project will also be given by Swansea University research graduates, followed by poetry readings and performances by school children from Ysgol Gynradd Tirdeunaw, Gwyrosydd Primary School and Ysgol Gyfun Bryntawe, all of whom have been involved in the creation of the film.
The event will also showcase the project's work to date, their research, findings and plans for the future and will conclude with a screening of the animated film.
Refreshments will be served after the screening. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.
