An event to celebrate the passing of the Olympic Torch through Swansea.

RIAH thin image bar The South West Wales Classical Association, in collaboration with the Department of History and Classics, Swansea University, is hosting two “Olympics Past and Present” talks on Saturday 26 May 2012 in the Waterfront Museum (upstairs in the gallery), to celebrate the Olympic torch making its way through Swansea.

At 11am Dr Martin Johnes (Head of Department, Department of History and Classics) will talk on "The Modern Olympics: Sport or Politics?", followed at 1pm by Dr Maria Pretzler (Department of History and Classics) who will talk on "At the Olympics in Antiquity: A Spectator's Tale".

There will a competition for under-18s to design an Olympic mascot, and a colouring competition for under-12s. Winners get an Olympic-themed prize.

This is a family-friendly event, so children are very welcome.
