 Tuesday 18 January 2011

‘INNOVATIONS IN YOUTH JUSTICE AND COMMUNITY SAFETY IN WALES'

 Professor Kevin Haines

Director, Centre for Criminal Justice and Criminology, Swansea University

 Professor Gordon Hughes

Director, Centre for Crime, Law and Justice, Cardiff University

Joint Co-ordinators of the Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice (WCCSJ) Youth Justice and Community Safety Network

Youth Justice and Community Safety are closely inter-related subjects, especially through debates about anti-social behaviour, responses to youth crime and promoting positive futures for young people.  A number of Wales-wide research projects have recently been conducted collaboratively by members of the network, including an evaluation of the Safer Communities Fund, a study of the work of community safety officers and an evaluation of an innovative diversion scheme for young offenders.

This talk presents evidence from recent evaluations of developments in youth justice and community safety in Wales, contextualising debates about devolution and the development of distinctively Welsh approaches to youth justice and community safety.

The briefing will be chaired by

Dr Jonathan Bradbury. The Swansea University briefing is hosted by Andrew Davies, AM for Swansea West.  It is organised by Dr Jonathan Bradbury on behalf of the Research Institute of Arts and Humanities (RIAH) and Swansea University.
