Spanish Civil War commemoration at the South Wales Miners' Library

Documentary Screening, Lectures and a Rededication Ceremony for the Spanish Civil War Memorial Plaque at the South Wales Miner' Library, Swansea University on 16 July 2011.


To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War there will be a special event - introduced by Dr. Hywel Francis MP, Aberavon - at the South Wales Miners' Library on Saturday 16th July (10:15-17:00).  The event will begin with a screening of the documentary 'Return Journey' by Sarah Dickins; then lectures by Dr. Martin Hurcombe (University of Bristol) 'The War Next Door: French Intellectuals' Engagement in the Spanish Civil War' and Dr. Stephen McVeigh (Swansea University) 'Literary Interventions: British and American Writers on the Spanish Civil War; followed by a rededication ceremony of the Memorial Plaque at the South Wales Miners' Library and the event will conclude with a wine reception and book launch 'France and the Spanish Civil War: Cultural Representations of the War Next Door, 1936-1945' by Martin Hurcombe (Ashgate, 2011).   The full programme is available to view here:    Programme (Spanish Civil War event) .
