Heidi YeandleHeidi Yeandle, a PhD candidate in the Department of English Literature and Language at Swansea University will be presenting a paper at the 'Apocalypse: Imagining the End' conference in Mansfield College, Oxford, 10-12 July 2013.  Her paper, 'Angela Carter's Heroes and Villains: The Postapocalyptic Function of the University' discusses the role of academia in this novel, particularly in line with the context of the Cold War and the rise of survivalism in the USA.

The conference covers a wide range of apocalyptic discussions, including other papers on Contemporary Women's Writing - such as Jeanette Winterson's The Stone Gods and Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake - as well as papers on zombie films and religious ideas of the end of the world.

As part of the conference, an eBook is being published shortly after the event, with each delegate contributing a 3000 word chapter. Heidi's draft chapter is on the conference website now - see it at:  http://www.inter-disciplinary.net/critical-issues/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/yeandleapopaper.pdf.
