Research and Innovation showcases statistics

For the first time the Department of Research and Innovation have released detailed statistics about the number and value of proposals submitted and contracts awarded in each School of the University.

The Research Support Office in the Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) support researchers from all across the University with the process of securing funds for research contracts.

DRI has compiled some summary statistics for you to view – which show how many proposals are submitted through the Department each year, and the value of the research and other services rendered contracts that are awarded.

The last financial year (08/09) saw £186,000,000 of proposals being submitted through the Research Support Office.  The successful proposals that were granted research contracts totalled an impressive sum of £42,800,000, surpassing the previous (07/08) year’s total by a significant margin of £17,600,000!

From the graphs below you will see that in the majority of Schools there has been a yearly increase in the number of proposals submitted, and this year the upward trend has continued.

This year’s to date figures are, in general, already promising to exceed last year’s figures.

Year on year, it can be seen that the amount of research and other services rendered contracts awarded to Swansea University has increased considerably – from  £25,200,000 being awarded overall in the 07/08 financial year, to a significant figure of £51,300,000 being secured already in this financial year to date.

It is evident from the graphs that Swansea is achieving year on year growth and DRI looks forward to providing continued support to our academic colleagues to sustain this trend.
