A4B is pleased to announce a call for Large Application Development Projects (L-ADP).
L-ADP has been developed to establish a linear, milestone-driven process for IP commercialisation support and follows on from the enhanced Early Stage Development Fund (ESDF). It is designed to complete the pre-commercial market development process for academic ideas that have significant potential i.e. those which could generate significant income from licensing or a spinout company formation.
This call is a pilot to prove the suitability of the new L-ADP approach and is ONLY open to applications from University Technology Transfer or Commercialisation Officers (TTO/CO) in support of the HEIs IP commercialisation process. It is the responsibility of the TTO/CO to ensure that the application form is completed and is focused on the commercial imperative.
The Guidance Notes and Application Form contain further details on this call.
For initial conversations please contact Dan Flanagan from the Department of Research and Innovation Swansea IP Group on 01792 513717 and email d.o.flanagan@swansea.ac.uk
Further information can also be obtained from the Welsh A4B IP Commercialisation Manager, Terry Stubbs tel: 029 2082 8834, Mobile: 07795 336671 and email: terry.stubbs@wales.gsi.gov.uk
The deadline for the call is 12 noon, Monday 19 July 2010 and applications should be submitted via the Department of Research and Innovation to A4B.IPapps@wales.gsi.gov.uk
Further details of the call can be found in the Guidance Notes.
In order for applicants to have the best possible chance of progressing to panel it is essential that only well developed applications are submitted for consideration. Associated with this call, applicants or institutions who contact A4B after 21st June for initial discussion about their bids cannot be considered as there will be insufficient time to develop and validate applications.
A4B is pleased to announce a ‘thematic’ competitive call for Knowledge Exchange Projects.
A4B is focusing support into strategic areas of importance to the Welsh economy and this call is therefore open to projects that directly relate to the following priorities for Wales:
The call is open from Thursday 11th February 2010 with an internal deadline for proposals to the Department of Research and Innovation of 11th June and final electronic submission to WAG by 5pm Friday 18th June 2010
It is currently envisaged that 3 projects will be supported within the Assisted Living category and 6 projects in the Low Carbon category.
Please Note: Due to the current budget allocation, A4B are only able to accept applications from lead institutions within the Convergence area, however academic partners from non Convergence areas are encouraged to engage with eligible institutions.
As this is a competitive call once an application has been submitted it will be assessed as presented with no further request for information being made by the Appraisal Team to the applicant.
Projects that are ineligible will not progress further than initial eligibility and verification checks and will be returned to applicants at the earliest possible opportunity. All eligible applications will be subject to assessment and ranking prior to panel. Only those applications meeting the highest quality standards will go forward to panel.
If you wish to discuss the overall strategic nature of this call, please contact Alison Parker in the Department of Research and Innovation on 01792 602630 or Gareth Wilson, Welsh Assembly Government A4B KEP Strand Manager, on 01686 613366.
In order for applicants to have the best possible chance of progressing to panel it is essential that only well developed applications are submitted for consideration. Therefore, we strongly advise and encourage applicants to contact their local RDM Richard Griffiths 01792 485718 and the Department of Research and Innovation at the earliest possibility to discuss and develop their bid accordingly. Associated with this call, applicants or institutions who contact their local RDM in the final working week of the call to initially discuss their bids will not be considered.
To ensure bids clearly demonstrate a commercial imperative and market demand/opportunity applicants are advised to contact their institution's technology transfer/commercial office to seek ESDF support to ensure a robust, commercially focused case for funding can be developed to strengthen the submission.
Please note: the panel meeting for this call will take place in September 2010 for a 1st October 2010 project start, therefore applicants must consider any recruitment that may take place within the first quarter and should profile their spend accordingly. All profiles should reflect defrayed costs only.
