Interdisciplinary Research Week, 21-25 November, 2011

Swansea's first Interdisciplinary Research Week, which took place in November 2011, was a campus-wide celebration of the University's research activity.

From the effects of climate change to the needs and aspirations of an ageing population, the complex  fabric  of  life  in  the  21st  century  faces  many  challenges  and  opportunities.  Addressing them requires research that crosses the boundaries between the scientific and technical, the political, cultural and social.

In turn, this requires fresh thinking and new modes of connection and communication that can be encouraged through cross-disciplinary research. By  enabling and encouraging staff to work at the interface of academic research, the University actively supports a collaborative approach to interdisciplinary research.

Interdisciplinary Research Week provided an ideal platform to showcase the breadth and excellence of Swansea's research through a comprehensive programme of lectures, demonstrations, tours, discussions, exhibitions and competitions. It also saw the launch of the Research Institute for Applied Social Science.
