A Certificate of Higher Education may be awarded in recognition of the successful completion of an approved programme of study designed to enable candidates to develop:

• the ability to demonstrate competence in and apply basic concepts and/or techniques at a level similar to that of the first year of an initial degree programme;
• the use of initiative in seeking out, organising and applying relevant information;
• the facility to present material for assessment/examination to a standard which demonstrates mastery of the subject and an underlying familiarity with, and comprehension of, the main principles which underpin its study at a level similar to that of a first year undergraduate.
