APPLICATION FORM DEADLINE – Friday 28th April 2017

What does the Summer University involve?

Students stay in halls of residence at Swansea University and University of Wales Trinity Saint David and during the day follow the academic subject module which they have chosen. All students also follow a ‘Skills for Higher Education’ module which covers writing and presentation skills, critical thinking, research and referencing skills and time management.  There is a full social programme in the evenings and previous activities have included: bowling, cinema, football, basketball, karaoke, quiz nights, discos, dance workshops and much more! The subjects on offer vary each year; to find out more about the subjects on offer this year please contact the Reaching Wider team at reachingwider@swansea.ac.uk

Who can attend?

The Summer University is aimed at Year 12 and First Year Level 3 students from schools and colleges in South West Wales who have the ability to succeed but, because of family, personal or other circumstances, are experiencing barriers which may prevent their progression to higher education (see application pack for further details).

Why give up 1 week of the Summer Holidays?

Not only is it a great opportunity to experience student life first hand but all students who successfully complete the Summer University will be given a reduction in the required grades (or equivalent UCAS points) by Swansea University and University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. Students can only benefit from one scheme offering a reduction in UCAS grade requirements. The scheme offering the highest reduction will be applied; and
2.  If students are applying for professional degree programmes,  the UCAS point reduction may not apply as the entry requirements for many professional degree programmes are determined in consultation with external professional bodies.
