In this talk, Professor Bird will explore how the evolution of cooperative and altruistic behaviour is a puzzle, since it does not seem to advantage the individual. He will also discuss how altruistic genes could spread and look at how evolutionary theorists and philosophers of biology have used game theory to shed light on such conundrums.
