University expertise showcased at BioWales 2015

Swansea University will again play a key part in this year’s BioWales, the largest life science conference, exhibition and partnering event in the Welsh calendar, which takes place in Cardiff on March 4 and 5.

BioWales 2015The University is BioWales’s Gold Supporter for the second year running and the event, which will be held at the Wales Millennium Centre, will exhibit the world-class work being carried out by various teams and centres at Swansea University, including the Centre for NanoHealth; the College of Medicine; the College of Human and Health Sciences; and the Sustainable Expansion of the Applied Coastal and Marine Sectors in Wales project, or SEACAMS, which is based within the College of Science

This year, BioWales is focused on the life sciences supply chain providing practical commercial opportunities for growth through novel routes to market in the private sector and NHS – an area where Swansea University has particular strength. 

Professor Ceri Phillips, Head of Swansea University’s College of Human and Health Sciences will give the conference’s opening address, on the role and relevance of health economics for planning and decision making within the life sciences sector.

Other key speakers from the University will include Professor Iain Whitaker, Clinical Chair in Burns and  Plastic Surgery, College of Medicine; Stephen Bain, Professor of Medicine, College of Medicine, Assistant Medical Director for Research and Development for ABM University Health Board, and Clinical Lead for the Diabetes Research Network, Wales; and Richard Sinden, Swansea University BSc Microbiology and Genetics alumnus, and now Head of Life Sciences, B&V Group.

Swansea University will showcase its Life and Marine Science research and projects at the exhibition on stand 21, with various samples and research material on display.  There will be a chance to win some great prizes from Swansea University, including free material sample testing with the Centre for NanoHealth and a year’s free ILS Affiliate Membership with the College of Medicine in its Institute of Life Science (ILS).  

The College of Human Health Sciences will be offering a free initial consultation at the Swansea University Osteopathic Clinic, plus an hour’s free initial consultation with a Senior Health Economist in Swansea or Cardiff. 

The SEACAMS project will also provide a free business health check by Synnwyr Busnes Business Sense.

And there will also be a video presentation showing the University’s new £450m Bay Campus development, which is on schedule to open in September 2015.
