Swans100: Swansea City Centenary Project Roadshow Sunday 1st April

Please note, this page has been archived and is no longer being updated.

Come along and help us to celebrate 100 years of Swansea City Football Club at Swansea Central Library, Sunday 1st April 11.00 – 3.00.

The Swans100 project is a joint venture between the Swansea City Supporters Trust and Swansea University. The aim is to create an on-line archive of the experiences of Swansea City fans over the first century of the club’s existence. Sometimes referred to as Virtual Museum, the idea is to record fans’ stories and reminiscences about their lives as Swans’ supports, and what the club means to them.

We are doing this in a number of ways: getting fans to complete our survey, on-line or on paper; interviewing fans face-to-face; photographing and scanning documents, programmes, tickets, fanzines, photographs, anything that we can turn into a digital copy; photographing other memorabilia such as shirts, mugs and badges; researching into the local newspaper archives for match reports and other news items; getting people to write their stories down, or interview other fans and ex-players on our behalf.

The archive will only be as good as the fans make it – it is the history of the supporters and their love for the club through all the ups and downs of the last century.

We want to reach out to more people, so on Sunday April 1st we are holding a Roadshow Open Day at the Swansea Central Library. This is your opportunity to come along, find about more about the project, and to bring any items of interest for us to log and record. It will be a chance to get your story into the archive and be a part of Swans history!

There will be project staff on hand to talk to you, to scan or photograph your memorabilia, to listen and record your stories. You will be able to complete the survey if you haven’t done so already, and share with us your experiences as a Swansea City supporter. Come along just to get some idea of how you might add to the archive, or even volunteer to help with the continuing work. Celebrate your team and its fantastic achievements! Be a part of your club’s history and come on down – all ages welcome.

The project is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Venue: Swansea Central Library Discovery Room, on the 1st Floor in the Local Studies Library. The Library is housed in the Civic Centre on Oystermouth Road.

Opening times: 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

Entry to the event is free.
