The "Richard Burton Diaries" reveal the writer behind the actor, the reader behind the film star, and the Welshman behind the celebrity.
On Wednesday 28 November, there’ll be a chance for people to learn more about the iconic stage and screen actor, with a special evening event at the Taliesin Arts Centre at Swansea University. The event marks the publication of his Diaries, which are held in the University’s archives.
Guests will hear from the editor of the Diaries, Professor Chris Williams, who will also read from the Diaries and disclose a few surprising revelations about the Pontrhydyfen-born actor.
Copies of the Diaries will be on sale at a special discounted price of £17.50 on the night in Waterstones bookshop (Taliesin branch), which guests can get signed by Professor Williams. There will also be a special screening of one of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s most celebrated films, "The Taming of the Shrew".
The event is organised by the Research Institute for Arts and Humanities (RIAH). It follows high profile launch events in New York, Los Angeles, Cheltenham and Port Talbot, Burton’s home town, and a surge of media interest around the world.
