Two students from Swansea University have won an eight-week placement in Canada working alongside Welsh entrepreneur Sir Terry Matthews OBE.
James Andrews, who is studying Biology, and Alex Long, a School of Management student, blew the judges away at the recent Big Pitch event.
The pair were among a number of students taking part, pitching either themselves or their entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of esteemed judges from the business sector.
“The Enterprise team are fantastic and make every effort possible to help young entrepreneurs succeed,” said James Andrews.
“After only hearing about the team a couple of months ago I have already benefited from great mentorship and huge life-changing opportunities.”

As well as the coveted Canadian experience, there were other prizes up for grabs including four UK entrepreneurial placements and a share of a £6,000 prize pot to help get business ideas off the ground.
Big Pitch promotes entrepreneurship and to support students in developing essential skills such as leadership, public speaking, teamwork, problem solving and creativity.
The event was organised by Swansea University’s Enterprise team, based within Research, Engagement & Innovation Services (REIS), with support from Santander Universities, Big Ideas Wales and Be The Spark.
The winners of the UK placements were Joseph Newton, a Sports and Exercise student, Davey Morgan, who studies History, and School of Management students, Canisha Chakadya, Brett Lewis and Reece Somaiya.
Meanwhile, the £6,000 seed funding was awarded to Joe Charman (Pilot Plus), Sam Lewis (Air Quality Management), Louis Broomfield, who is creating a sport sponsorship platform, James Elphick and his mobile barbering app, BlockChop, and Emily Leek, who is retailing cruelty-free makeup.
Ann Swift, who was on the judging panel and is Youth Entrepreneurship Manager for Welsh Government, said:
“I was truly impressed with the calibre of students at Big Pitch. The team’s efforts, coupled with their clear aspirations to change the world and create an amazing future for themselves in the field of entrepreneurship, made for a really worthwhile event.”
