Swansea University is proud to offer 15 fully-funded PhD scholarships for students commencing study in October 2018 or January 2019.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of student excellence across a portfolio of 34 potential projects.
Swansea University is a UK top 30 institution for research excellence (Research Excellence Framework 2014) and has been named Welsh University of the Year 2017 by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide. The Department of Computer Science leads Wales and is in the top-20 Computer Science Departments in the UK. The Computer Science Department resides in the College of Science at Swansea University. The College of Science fosters adventurous, ambitious researchers who want to work with impact and purpose. One of our goals is to foster a growing, vibrant community of PhD students across the College. This community is a key dynamic in our drive to be the most creative place to carry out science globally. The College of Science and its Doctoral Training Centre provides a training and research environment that offers a competitive advantage to our PhD researchers, preparing them for industry and academia. We increasingly seek out “T” shaped thinkers: deeply skilled in a discipline/set of methods who can also connect broadly with others.
In this spirit, the Department of Computer Science at Swansea University invites applications for an interdisciplinary PhD study that spans and connects three research areas:
The depth and breadth of each phase of the investigation depends on a number of factors including the background of the applicant, a discussion between the candidate and the supervisors, and their common interests. The successful candidate will join the College of Science’s Doctoral Training Centre and participate in all of its community events and training activities.
Please liaise with first supervisor Ulrich Berger or second supervisor Markus Roggenbach for further questions or information. Further details about the department of Computer Science can be found below: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/compsci/
Applicants should have (or expect to obtain) a first class honours degree (or equivalent) and/or a distinction at master's level in computer science or a closely related discipline.
Experience of relevant programming and mathematical skills is desirable.
Due to funding restrictions, this scholarship is available to UK/EU students only.
The scholarship covers the full cost of UK/EU tuition fees, plus an annual stipend of £14,553 (in line with the RCUK stipend amount) for 3 years.
