MA by Research
Politics and International Relations offers the MA by Research for students who wish to study a research degree for one-year full-time or two-years part-time. The MA by Research requires detailed research on a specific topic, but the thesis is only 30 000 words (approx.).
MPhil
An M.Phil also requires detailed research on a specific topic, but the thesis is only 60 000 words (approx.). A full-time M.Phil student pays one year’s full-time fees and must submit their thesis for examination within three years. A part-time M.Phil student pays part-time fees for 2 years and must submit their thesis for examination within four years.
PhD
A PhD requires you to conduct original research on a specific topic leading to the production of a 100 000 word (approx.) thesis. A full-time PhD student pays full-time fees for 3 years and must submit the thesis for examination within 4 years. A part-time PhD student pays part-time fees for 6 years and must submit their thesis for examination within 8 years.
Entry Requirements
PhD entry requirements are an upper second degree plus a Master’s degree in a relevant subject. M.Phil and Master’s by Research applicants must have a minimum of 2.1 at undergraduate level. Students may enrol in September, January, April or July.
