Another Successful Master Class in Particle Physics

The Physics Department hosted yet another Particle Physics Master Class on Wednesday 23 March. During this event, AS and A level pupils in Physics are exposed to the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN, learn about gravitational waves, hear about the trapping of anti-matter, and also get a chance to find the Higgs boson themselves in a hands-on data analysis session. The event on Wednesday was attended by 38 pupils and 4 teachers from 3 schools. Two of these, Merthyr Tydfil College and Cyfarthfa High School (the third school being Brynteg School), will be visiting CERN after Easter, and the Master Class is part of a wider scheme that also includes the Welsh Teacher Programme, aimed at inspiring younger physicists about the wonders of the science and the range of possibilities available for those who wish to take it further.

Physics Master Class March 2016The Physics Department organises Master Classes throughout the spring, and the next event is scheduled for June.
