The role description is a new form to be completed following the implementation of the Framework Agreement. This form will provide the Recruitment Team with further information about the job broken down into HERA elements. This form will not be sent out to candidates but will be kept for background information to justify the grade of the new post.
Following the implementation of the Framework Agreement all roles within the University have been evaluated. In order to ensure that new posts fit in the new grading structure the Recruitment team will grade the new posts before advertising. The Role Description form will provide all of the details required to grade the new job accurately and contains most of the HERA elememts.
Now that the grading structure and the role profiles are available it is possible for current staff to compare their grades with new posts being advertised. The Recruitment team have on occassion had to justify the grades of new posts so it is important that this form is completed fully and accurately.
Although the role description will not be sent to applicants there may be examples on this form which could be copied into the job description or the person specification so may be made available to applicants.
For Academic or related posts the process is different and is that the grade agreed by the funding will stand but the recruitment pack will need to follow the appropriate proforma. There are proformas for all levels of academic jobs and you should ensure that you use the correct one.

KEY POINTS
The Role Description needs to be completed for all posts. For most replacement posts the grade will not change unless the requirements are different but this will be discussed with Managers.
When preparing the Role Description, please give specific details under each of the elements to assist the team with grading the post accurately.
Some elements such as initiative and problem solving or decision making are quite difficult to complete. An idea of the type of decisions which the postholder will need to make, or an example of a likely problem the postholder may face will help the team to grade the post accurately.
If an element cannot be graded from the evidence provided the Role Analyst will contact you with further questions to be certain that the grade awarded is correct.
Please ensure that the academic proforma you complete matches the grade ie. Research Grade 7 or Turor grade 8 from the packs available online.
